It's the end of June...have you bought your tickets, yet?

In case you haven't heard, tickets for this year's Scarefest are on sale right now! Dates for this year are Oct 20-22, with a pre-party at the Winsborough on the night of the 19th. We will once again be back at the beautiful Montreat Conference Center in Black Mountain, NC. You can pick up your weekend pass, lodging, meal ticket, and t-shirt all at once right here, or get them individually over here. Also, we have custom dice this year for the first time ever, and for the last time ever in regard to our retro-runs for years 1 and 2. You can pick those up right here.

What's new this year?

The Pre-Party: Apparently, may of you love Scarefest so much you never want to leave. Since that's not possible (yet), we're opening up a night early for a social soirĂ©e. We dedicated Minions will be at the gaming hall from around 5:30, if you want to alleviate some of our labor (and maybe get sneak peeks into whatever madness Hilda is planning...more on that below), and then back at the Winsborough by 7:00 for the socializing. We're not very good at it, but we'll try. BYOB and snacks, and whatever card/board/etc. games you think you can suck people into/hide behind.

The Meal Tickets: Last year we introduced the concept of meal tickets, and they were an improvement, but not...perfect. In fact, Minion #8, who is a total food snob, described the lunches as "barely passable in a federal prison". We're not sure if he was talking from experience or not, and we're certainly not going to ask him. Nevertheless, in our constant striving to improve Scarefest, this year's meal tickets will feature all-you-can-eat breakfast buffets up at Assembly Inn (like last year), but lunches and dinners will be catered/served from an assortment of excellent local food trucks/catering services. We hope you like them.

T-Shirt Colors: You can get them in black and blue. Because...apparently sometimes people wear colors other than black?

Human Sacrifices Needed! (GM Signup Call)

Obviously, we Minions try very hard to create a perfect environment for your gaming pleasure. But at the end of the day, we know we are just window dressing without the core of the con, the heart of the matter, the bloody meat in the Scarefest Sandwich: the GMs. And right now, we are looking for a few brave souls to sign up to run games. Signing up for 3 games gets you a free weekend pass! Signing up for five gets you a pass plus a t-shirt! Signing up for one will get you a day pass for the day you're running! And all levels come with out undying gratitude. Literally undying...the Overlord has made sure of that.

Minion Corner: strange goings on in the woods...

Welcome to our new section, Minion Corner, where we Minions get to tell you a little about our lives and what goes on outside the spotlight (Minion #22 has been taking a psychology course and says it will be "cathartic").

In the months since you heard from us last we have been very busy filing all the paperwork that resulted from Scarefest 2, and are delighted to report that the Paperwork Monsters have been reduced from 10 to 4-1/2 feet; a significant improvement! Also, the number of Tiny Turtles has doubled, taking them out of the Endangered category and up to just Threatened (as are we all). We got some new goldfish, which the Yeti has promised not to eat. We named them Freddie, Jason, and Michaela (because Hilda insists the big one is a girl; no one here knows how to tell the gender of goldfish...if you do, please get in touch).

The most interesting thing has happened only in the past month, however. It was Minion #19 who first noticed Hilda slipping off into the woods late at night, every night. At first, we simply assumed she was hunting more ink cartridges (or red Jello packets, or RIT dye, or madder root...she seems to have a wide variety of food sources, for a vampire). But then we began to hear the music. Wild and tinkling, and almost familiar, and yet warped beyond what any of us feel certain we can identify, it has been the topic of much discussion in the Minion Bunker, and not a few truly outstanding nightmares. When we've asked Hilda about it, she simply laughs and dismisses it as "a few friends visiting from out of town". None of us has been brave enough to get close enough to see what might be the source. But it's probably fine.

We'll see you soon!
