AVL Scarefest Charity of Choice 2018: WNCCHS
At last year’s AVL Scarefest, the Pathfinder Society community was able to raise nearly $750 for a local charity, Manna Food Bank. And we thought to ourselves…hey, we can really do some good here, beyond just creating an excuse to let the Minions out of their bunker once a year. So this year, we’re opening up the charity event to the whole convention. If you would like to participate, you can purchase a charity pin at the Info Desk. This pin will earn you certain…benefits throughout the convention. We are encouraging all GMs to allow one re-roll or similar benefit each game to those with charity pins. Pins may also have other perks we just haven’t thought of yet. Maybe you’ll get to pet the Yeti! Maybe you’ll get extra spins on the Prize Wheel! Maybe we’ll send you to feed the Mountain Mouth! Just wait and see!
This year’s charity will be the Western North Carolina Community Health Services (WNCCHS), which offers sliding-scale medical, dental, and mental health services to low income residents of WNC. Just as importantly, the WNCCHS houses the Transgender Health Program, a service near and dear to our hearts. The Transgender Health Program helps over 200 transgender people in our area, many of whom would otherwise not be able to receive the care they need.
“We strive to provide appropriate, up to date, evidence-based care for our trans patients, including preventive services, behavioral health services, hormone therapy, general medical care, and referral to community resources. We recognize that there is a huge gap in healthcare that is accessible and appropriate for transgender patients in the United States and especially in the South.” – Jennifer Abbott, MD
It’s an impressive mission, to bring high-quality medical care to WNC residents who would otherwise not be able to afford or access it. We hope you will all join us in giving back.
